Julia Demopoulos of WitheringInks is a self taught mixed media artist using everything from India ink to acrylic paint to create her compelling yet strange works of art. Inspired by nature and the macabre, she blends both of these passions to create her own unique abstractions. 

She resides in Harford County Maryland and has a fascination with hiking and visiting abandoned towns all over the tri-state area. These adventures allow her to depict the darker more peculiar side of nature. This also lends to a vast variety of subject matter ranging from flowers and decaying trees, to skulls and crumbing foundations. 

Using a technique she created called "dirty water", the artist creates washed eerie backgrounds combined with an eye-popping focal point. This contrast creates an astounding arrangement, that is only enhanced by her mastery of India ink and various splatter effects. 

Demopoulos began her path as a professional artist in 2016. Since then she has  achieved first place in the category of mixed media in both the Harford County Farm Fair and the Bel Air Festival of Arts. As well as obtaining runner up for ‘best in show’ in the Havre de Grace Art Show. Her artwork was also juried at the Hyattsville Art Festival.
